September 26, 1929 - August 18, 2021
We are sad to announce that our beloved Brad passed away Wednesday in Penticton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his immediate family and the virtual presence of grandchildren around the world. He was born in Carman, Manitoba, the elder of two brothers (younger Jim).
Summers in cottage country with a great aunt started his lifelong love of the outdoors. He earned a medical degree at the University of Manitoba, and shortly met a beautiful nurse, Marie Warkentin. They married in 1953, and began raising a family in Moosomin, Saskatchewan, where he was a real country doctor.
After a family holiday to the Okanagan, Brad saw a place where he could fish, hike, swim, water-ski, canoe, sail, cross-country ski and grow a variety of fruit right in his own yard; time to move to Penticton!
And there he spent many years as a respected family doctor and fantastic husband, father and grandfather, sharing his outdoor passions with family and friends. On retirement, he never did give up his house because he couldn't bear to lose the garden, and he worked in it right up to the short illness that carried him peacefully away.
He is survived by his wife Marie, son Gordon (Louanne), daughters Barbara (Robin) and Roxanne (Ray), grandchildren Peter (Lauren), Mark (Brenda), Will (Jamee), Allison (Matt), Neil (Garthiga), Devin, Taryn, Riley (Afie) and Roanan, and great-grandchildren Georgiana and Henry.
He was predeceased by his father James, his mother Marjorie (nee Carefoot), and his much-missed firstborn, Kathleen Marie Brett.
Special thanks to the wonderful staff of the 5th floor of PRH, and to Dr. John Surkan for his years of compassionate care. Should you wish to donate in Brad's name, please make it to the Mission and Service Fund, care of Penticton United Church.
