Lately there has been several opinion articles regarding the HST reversal that will take place over the next 18 months. Millions were spent on keep-the-HST television ads, newspaper ads and signs, all trying to make us feel the HST was best for B.C.
There was a billion extra tax dollars compliments of the HST. As a senior on a fixed income and for young people as well, this tax only pushed us further into debt. To only name a few things now taxed, every month, that were not before: tax on my heating fuel; tax on my telephone bill; tax on my cablevision bill; tax on children’s sports; tax on children’s clothing; tax on restaurant bills.
Don’t tell the people you’re not going with the HST then implement it. Don’t tell the people it’s revenue neutral ... then make a billion dollars off our backs.
There may be a price to pay for our decision, but hopefully the government learned a good lesson too!
