Penticton Western News letters to the editor.

I had the pleasure of playing in the Grindstone Award Foundation charity hockey tournament this past weekend and it was a lot of fun.

Thank you to Danielle Grundy and all her amazing volunteers. Two-time Olympic women’s hockey medalist Natalie Spooner was there to inspire all the young girls that were part of the Girls Rock The Rink camp. It was fun to play with and against university and professional women’s hockey players who came from all across Canada. I am impressed with the talent of the girls in women’s hockey.

Collectively the tournament, held in Kelowna but had players from all over the Okanagan and beyond participating, raised enough money to support 50 girls to play hockey next year. With growing hockey fees it’s more challenging for girls to get involved in such a great sport, so this is fantastic.

Thanks for an amazing weekend. I can’t wait to do it next year.

If you have a daughter, or you play women’s hockey yourself, come on out. It’s a blast and it’s for a great cause,

Alicia Ferri
