Letter: Voters left in the cold

Penticton voters were kept outside the building in the extreme cold temperature on election day

Regarding the editorial (Penticton Western News, Sept. 7, Time enough to vote) — in the 2014 election there were many people that walked away from voting at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre in that election.

Why? Because they were kept outside the building in the extreme cold temperature on election day only allowing persons to go in when the alphabetical registration desks were not occupied.

All voting at the PTCC prior to 2014 allowed all voters to enter the building on their arrival and then line up at their appropriate alphabetical station to take their turn and vote.

You were allowed to go into the heated building and wait your turn.

The 2014 election was run by a new elections officer who did not know that practice and caused an awful lot of disgruntled voters to shout “I’m freezing” and leave.

It took me almost 90 minutes just to get into the PTCC to vote that day.

Hopefully this time around we’ll go back to the practice before 2014 at all the voting stations.

Good administration/leadership would and should have never kept voters out in the cold.
