LETTERS: Priorities need to be checked

Is the city of Penticton seriously considering rainbow coloured crosswalks?

Is the city of Penticton seriously considering rainbow coloured crosswalks?

Is there no other way we could possibly be using my hard earned tax paying dollars?

I would like to start off by saying that I have friends and family members that fit into the “category” of LGBT and I believe that they should have equal rights. But a coloured crosswalk to represent that we support them? Not OK with me. I am appalled that the city would even think about spending any taxpayers money on such a ridiculous thing.

How about using that money to fix the atrocious amount of pot holes on our city streets? Or, fill the shelves of our food bank who desperately try so hard to feed the more and more families that are relying on them.

How about all the teachers jobs that just got cut last year or the same with the health care staff that keeping getting cut due to funding?

Yesterday I found a homeless man trying to salvage anything he could out of our garbage, I gave him $20 cash and a garbage bag full of empties. He thanked me profusely and yet I felt like I had not done enough.

Why are we not using this coloured crosswalk fund to help get our homeless off the streets and into a warm bed? Seriously disappointed with your thought process city of Penticton and your priorities.
