LETTERS: Support is here

PFLAG Canada is a national organization providing support to individuals.

Some Western News readers may have been following the exploits of Kim Davis, the county clerk in Kentucky who claims her “Christian” beliefs won’t permit her to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples.

She was briefly imprisoned for contempt of court, after she refused to follow the orders of a judge.

The support she is receiving from various quarters is disturbing. As the brother of a gay man (who died of AIDS in the 1990s) I find this somewhat disheartening.

PFLAG Canada is a national organization providing support to individuals who are experiencing difficulties because of their gender orientation or expression, and to their family, friends and supporters. I would like to invite all these people to this Thursday’s meeting of the PFLAG Canada Penticton chapter. Our speaker is a transgender woman who has changed her life over the past few years to live her own truth.

The meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24, at Oasis United Church, 2964 Skaha Lake Rd., refreshments to follow. For further information, please contact me at 250-493-5530.
