Protect city pathway

Penticton residents and tourists could lose safe walking/wheelchair access to Okanagan Lake.

Penticton residents and tourists could lose safe walking/wheelchair access to Okanagan Lake.

Currently before Penticton council is a decision to allow a rezoning of a duplex lot located at 433 Churchill Ave to a multi-unit lot. The entry to the underground parking to this building is currently planned to be off the beach/lane/alley access between Churchill Avenue and Lakeshore Drive.

This beach access/walkway/alley has been in place for over 80 years. You or a family member or friend have likely walked, cycled or skateboarded down the beach access without fear for your safety.

If council approves the developers plan and vehicle access to the new four-plex is off the beach/lane/alley access — the potential for someone being struck by a car is almost certain.

We now have an opportunity to secure this path for future generations of residents and tourists. If we lose the safe walking/cycling access to Okanagan Lake now — it will be gone forever.
