A lot of tinkering has happened with the Pinnacles FC under-15 girls soccer team.
Coach Derrick Webb has had the luxury to do that with squad because Pinnacles FC is hosting the B.C. Soccer Girls Provincial B Cup championship July 7-10.
Webb hasn't obsessed over wins, which they have three, as much as development.
"It's about how we play the game," said Webb, after his team lost 1-0 to Vernon United U16. "We always say results don't matter until we get to provincials. Hopefully then we will play to win."
Pinnacles FC lost on Sunday to Vernon at Kings Park in the final 15 minutes. Webb felt it was an evenly played match.
"We certainly carried a lot of the possession and created a few chances," he said. "Our girls just need to get a little bit stronger. We're still a little bit on the small side."
During the match Webb and his assistant experimented with different formations and tried girls in different positions to generate offence. He said now is the time to do that. If they are chasing a 1-0 game or are in a tie they need to win, they know how to approach the situation.
Webb has also dealt with missing players as some are committed to club basketball, volleyball, spring hockey and swimming. It's been rare for him to have a full roster. HIs team also possesses five players that will represent Thompson Okanagan zone 2 in soccer for the B.C. Summer Games in Abbotsford next month.
This weekend however, their focus shifts to playing the Kamloops Blaze.
"They got a couple of real speedsters up top," he said. "They beat us 3-1 at home. We just didn't compete hard enough. That was kind of our last bad game."
