Former Penticton Vee Mark MacMillan signs entry-level contract with Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens announced on Sunday that the National Hockey League franchise has signed University of North Dakota senior forward Mark MacMillan to a two-year entry-level contract.

The announcement was made by the university.

MacMillan, a fourth-round pick of the Canadiens in 2010, was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Defensive Forward of the Year and earned All-NCHC First Team honours as a senior in 2014-15. The Penticton, British Columbia, native was leading the conference with a career-high 16 goals when he suffered a season-ending knee injury on Feb. 28.

MacMillan finished his senior season with 25 points in 29 games and led the team in faceoff wins (308), faceoff percentage (57.2) and shooting percentage (26.2) as UND won the Penrose Cup as NCHC regular-season champion.

He finished his collegiate career with 46 goals and 53 assists in 151 career games.

Off the ice, MacMillan was one of five national finalists for the 2015 BNY Mellon Wealth Management Hockey Humanitarian Award, the first such finalist in UND history. He was also one of 10 national finalists for the Senior CLASS Award and was named a 2014-15 Senior CLASS Award First-Team All-American.

An entrepreneurship major, MacMillan was a three-time academic all-conference honoree.
