Judo training sessions led by world and national champions

Penticton Judo Club hosts clubs for the Okanagan Regional Training session led by world and national champions

The Penticton Judo Club hosted other clubs earlier this month for the Okanagan Regional Training session.

Seventy students took part in the training session at St. Saviour's Anglican Church led by Kathy Hubble, current senior world champion and Lisa Nakashima, current national champion and member of the national judo team.

Hubble and Nakashima were joined by sensei's from Salmon Arm, Vernon, Lake Country, Kelowna and Kamloops.

Henry Boas, of the Penticton Judo Club, said the importance of having people work with the kids was to improve high performance athletes.

What the judo students gained from the day, said Boas, was the joy of working with people they would be competing against.

"The opportunity to learn and improve," said Boas. "everybody was happy. They really enjoyed it."

At the end, Penticton's Cloe Alex received the spirit award.

In other club news, Kaleden's Tyler Carey earned a silver medal in the 46-kilogram weight class at the B.C. Winter Games.
