The Pen High Lakers tennis are AAA Okanagan Valley champions.
The Lakers claimed the title in West Kelowna Thursday, which was hosted by the Mt. Boucherie Bears and also featured Salmon Arm. The three teams played a round robin tournament that ended in a three-way tie. The Lakers were named winners after counting the sets won.
“I think we played really well,” said Lakers co-coach Helena Konanz, adding that the three teams were very close. “It made for a really exciting day. I think that our team won a few really close sets that made the difference.”
The Lakers have gained match experience through pre-season games against the Summerland Rockets, Maggie Mustangs and Bears.
The Lakers had two practices this week as they get ready to play at the provincial championship at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Tennis Club on May 26-28. The Lakers team competed in provincials last year and finished 11th.
