After dropping their opening game of a Sa-Hali senior girls basketball tournament last weekend, the Princess Margaret Mustangs went 2-0.
The Mustangs rebounded from their 52-25 loss to the Duchess Park Condors by defeating the Pitt Meadows Vikings 60–37. Kari-Grace Pym led the offence with 12 points, while Dana Klamut had 11, Abby Winstone nine and Callan Cooper eight. For her efforts at each end of the floor, Winstone received player of the game honors.
The Mustangs then defeated the College Heights Cougars 65-40. Brooklyn Pichette led all scorers with 16 points and nine rebounds while Winstone, Klamut and Shayla Hearne each chipped in eight. Klamut won the player of the game award while Pichette was named to the all-star team for her solid play.
In the loss to the Condors, player of the game Kari-Grace Pym had eight points and 15 rebounds while Rylee McKinlay added seven with Pichette and Winstone each contributing six.
“The Mustangs played 11 good quarters of basketball at the tournament featuring a number of the top Double A teams in the province,” said Mustangs coach Dave Killick.
Senior boys
The Mustangs loss to the Kelowna Christian Knights 73-66 last week.
Mustangs coach Brian Hurst said it was a close game that was tied at 64 with roughly a minute remaining.
“Down by three with 45 seconds left we, were unable to score and then they came down and hit a three to put the game away,” said Hurst. “The team played great defense throughout and we shared the ball with many players contributing to the effort.”
Mitch Brodt was high scorer with 15 points. Jas Sahota added 13, Sanam Klar nine, Gary Chahal eight and Justin Cantelon seven.
