Mustangs edged by Coyotes in South Zone playoff game

The Maggie Mustangs senior boys basketball team lost 72-71 to the George Elliot Coyotes.

The Maggie Mustangs senior boys basketball team dropped a 72-71 decision to the George Elliot Coyotes following a long drive through the snow Wednesday.

The Mustangs were led by Prab Chahal, who put up 27 points in the first round of the South Zone playoffs. Also contributing to the Mustangs offence were Jivraj Grewal with 11 points, while Bryn Carter and Connor Turner chipped in eight each.

Mustangs co-coach Dan Van Os said the team played to their potential and gave the Coyotes all they could handle. The Mustangs received strong defence and rebounding from Jaylen Hearne and Ben Barnett.

The team next plays the Summerland Rockets on Feb. 15 at home at 6:30 p.m. The winner moves onto Valleys. On Feb. 16, the Mustangs will take on the Pen High Lakers in the third annual Kaylee Kozari Memorial Cross City Rival Basketballgame at Pen High. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
