The Okanagan Hoops were a perfect 3-0 in the Winter Challenge hosted by the Kelowna Minor Basketball Association last weekend.
In the Hoops' final game, a 45-21 win against KLO, Olivia Devito led offensively with eight points, while Kate Coombes dropped seven, Live Elder and Mckenna Clarke earned player of the game honours, while collecting three points.
“Mckenna really set a physical tone at the defensive end, and she’s growing with confidence at the offensive end with every game,” said Hoops coach Chris Terris.
Terris said this was their first chance to see how they measure up against Kelowna schools.
"The results were a great affirmation that as a group we’re on the right path," he said. "There’s lots of room for improvement, but the results speak for themselves.”
The Hoops opened with a 44-27 victory against Chute Lake. Devito netted 10 points and collected three steals, while Kayley Davies had eight points with three steals. Jennifer Hayman finished with six points and five rebounds, Kalli Doell drained six points and Vanessa Edis dropped four with five steals. That effort gave Edis player of the game honours. Terris said with attention paid to stronger defence, he liked what his players did as it helped them create turnovers.
In their second game, the Hoops cruised past Dr. Knox 59-14, led by Devito who earned player of the game honors for netting 20 points and eight steals. Edis and Hayman hit double digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Doell and Emma Terris finished with six and four points, respectively. Doell and Terris also finished with eight and three steals.
“Olivia and Vanessa created a ton of opportunities for themselves and others in transition," said Terris. "Both have the ability to finish with both hands effectively and both are unselfish.”
