Penticton hosted a 3-on-3 Winter Jam Session that included a slam dunk competition at the Community Centre on Dec. 28.

Jesse Grewal won the slam dunk competition over Brayden Hearne in a sudden death round. There was also a granny shot and 3-point shot competition.

The event attracted 30 people and there were six teams on the adult side. The playoffs were won by the The Old Guys (Ryan Graham, Kevin Christian and Joel Fisher) against Hoops I did it again (Randy Unrau, Sean Forrest and Shawn Berndt). The youth side was cancelled as calls to register didn't come until after the deadline.

Sherrie Pope, sport program leader - South Okanagan for Pacific Sport, said the tournament was to gauge what interest there would be in the community for more basketball tournaments or even a league. Drop-in basketball programs are solid, but the organization wants to offer the community more organized basketball. There was interest for another basketball tournanment so there are thoughts for a summer jam at the Skaha outdoor courts.

Winter Jam was organized by Recreation Penticton and Pacific Sport with major sponsorship from Clancy's Liquor Store and Pentagon Boardshop.

Drop-in basketball at the rec centre is Monday and Wednesday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. People can also come in to just shoot a few hoops. Flex and monthly passes can be purchased and used for other drop-in sports such as volleyball, pickle ball, badminton etc.
