A Penticton-based basketball team continued its stellar start to the 2022 season, after winning four straight games and a divisional championship at the Spring Showcase Tournament in Coquitlam.

The Lake City Basketball U13 boys team arrived on Lower Mainland last week to participate in a two-day tournament, where they battled squads from places across B.C.

Penticton’s U13 team won all four games, improving its record to 7-2 on the season.

“We’re starting to develop a team identity and certainly expectations have been raised for this group,” said the team’s coach Russ Reid. “We’re excited to test ourselves in our upcoming tournaments.”

The team used “standout” performances from Mateo Ducheck and Liam Reid, according to the team’s coach.

Penticton players Kai Rippy and Balkaran Lidhar were also recognized for making positive impacts on both ends of the floor.

The team’s performance at the tournament was headlined by an 84-60 win over a U13 team from Richmond.

Lake City’s U13 boys were among four Penticton-based teams to attend the tournament in Coquitlam.

Penticton U12s, U16s and U17s also participated in the festivities.

Teams from the organization will be in action next from May 27 to 29 in Kelowna at the FYBA Invitational.
