Penticton/Vancouver rink among top teams in senior curling championship

The 2016 Tim Hortons BC Senior Curling Championships began Tuesday at the Richmond Curling Club.

After four draws, Marilou Richter's rink with Debbi Jones-Walker, Brenda Garvey and Pam Cuthbert from Penticton/Vancouver is tied for first at 4-0. The Summerland/Oliver rink of Jackie Clement, Diane Tetrault, Sylvia Lowe, Tammy Brennan and Lil Blashko are last at 4-0. Team Richter opened the championship with a 5-2 win over Team Clement. Their next match is today against Team Noble, which has won one of four draws.

Among the participants in the championship is two-time BC senior women’s champion, Penny Shantz, from Parksville. Shantz won a gold medal at the Calgary Olympics when curling was a demonstration sport. The 16 teams from across the province will be vying for the opportunity to represent BC at the Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Digby, Nova Scotia.
