Marlo Spence was solid on the mound for the South Okanagan Minor Baseball Association AA Tigers in a 3-2 loss to the Cloverdale Spurs on April 30.
Spence helped keep the Tigers in the game until the Spurs hit a walk-off fly ball to the warning track at left center. Kaiden Skode had a great catch on a line drive to shortstop in the fifth inning.
In mosquito action, on April 28, the Penticton Pirates lost to the Penticton Reds 11-6. On April 29, the Tigers and Twins battled to a 7-7 tie. Luke Sandham struck out all three batters in the bottom of the fifth inning to keep the game tied. The Summerland Jays defeated Princeton 13-10 and the Summerland Chiefs picked up a 12-7 win over Princeton.
In peewee AA under-13 action, the Thunder defeated the Vernon Canadians 2 19-4. Mason Sherburne was in “beast mode” hitting three homeruns in his first three at bats. Against the Vernon Canadians 1 in game two, the Thunder won easily 10-2. Sherburne dominated on the mound giving up one run.
The SOMBA Mariners lost 15-10 to Summerland 1, then Summerland 1 picked up a 16-10 win over the Twins. Twins rookie pitcher Owen Madsen struck out two batters in the third inning in his debut. Osoyoos earned a narrow 11-10 win over the Tigers scoring the winning run in the bottom of the fifth. Mark Andrew hit a triple and pitched strong for nearly three innings.
In under-nine play, the Reds got bitten by the Osoyoos Scorpions, losing 15-14 to start double header action on April 29. Reo Urquhart went four-for-four with two runs scored to keep the Reds in it until the end. The Reds rebounded with a 12-5 win over the Osoyoos Frantic Fielders. Nick Cresswell put the Reds on his back going three-for-three including two doubles and two runs scored. The Reds had a solid team effort, keeping the other Osoyoos squad to two runs through the first four innings.
The Tigers split their double-header. They opened with a 12-2 win over the Fielders. In a 25-9 loss to the Scorpions, Tyson Martin had a long hit to centre field.
Playing at Peach Field, the Twins and A’s settled for an 11-11 tie. The A’s played a great game with every player collecting a hit and there were several great plays defensively. Lauren Christian made a great play to end the seventh inning, then in the home half with two outs and down by, one she drove in the tying run.
The Pirates defeated Summerland 13-5. Carter Bifford and Ronin Kanazawa had eight hits between them and scored five runs for the Pirates.
Bantam A
The Tigers faced the Kelowna Sun Devils , winning both matches 13-7 and 16-7. The Tigers used eight pitchers in both games. Kyton MacFadden blasted a three-run home run in the first game. Isaac Halverson hit two doubles, while Connor Stephens made some big plays at first in the second game. Gyobin Lee went five-for-seven in the games.
