Summerland baseball makes pitch for registration

A new season of Summerland Minor Baseball hits the diamond in April and registration is now open.

A new season of Summerland Minor Baseball hits the diamond in April and registration is now open.

Families interested in having their children play can do so by dropping off a form at the recreation department (at the pool), mailing it or bringing it to registration night on Feb. 24 between 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Summerland Minor Baseball has six divisions (blast ball, tad pole, mosquito, pee wee, bantam and midget). New players are asked to register by March 15 or a late fee of $25 will apply.

Registration fee includes a team shirt and hat, individual and team photos, opening day activities with a hot dog lunch and wind up festivities at Okanagan Amusements. That will include a hot dog dinner, ride pass and souvenir.

For umpires, registration forms must be filled out by March 10, with clinic, date, time and locations to be announced.

Volunteers are also needed to coach, pitch count, score keep, maintain fields, prepare fields for games and more. This year, in order to lighten the load of the volunteers, SMBA have added new executive positions to share the tasks involved in having a baseball association in Summerland.
