Trio of goaltenders Penticton-bound as Vees announce more recruits

Will Ingemann and Andrew Ness are currently penciled in to be the Vees’ primary goalie tandem

Things are set to look different in the Penticton Vees’ crease come September.

The team announced Saturday, June 3, it has recruited goaltenders Will Ingemann, Andrew Ness, and Sharky Nowek for the 2023-2024 season.

General manager Fred Harbinson says Ingemann and Ness will serve as the team’s primary tandem, with Nowek slotted in as the Vees’ third goalie.

“Our goaltending has always been a focal point of our success,” said Harbinson. “What our list of goalies have done in the NCAA is what attracts the next crop, and this year is no different.”

Ingemann, 18, comes to Penticton after posting an 18-7-2 record and .941 save percentage at the Wayzata High School in Plymouth, Minn.

He backstopped his team last season to an appearance in the Minnesota State High School League Finals, after playing for Team USA at the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Red Deer, Alta.

“I’m excited and honored to join the Vees organization and community,” Ingemann said. “I look forward to playing for and learning from Penticton’s great coaching staff and being part of the Vees’ tradition.”

Ness, 19, spent last season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, posting a 6-10-2-0 record and .914 save percentage

“The Vees have a great program and it’s exciting to get to be a part of that next season,” stated the Winnipeg, Man. product “I look forward to getting to Penticton for camp and making a good first impression.”

Ness also appeared in three games for Team Canada West during the 2022 World Junior ‘A’ Challenge in Cornwall, Ont.

Nowek, meanwhile, spent the 2022-23 season with the Okanagan Hockey Academy’s U18 Prep team.

The 16-year-old played in six games, posting three shutouts and a 2.33 goals-against average.
