Penticton Vees forward Wade Murphy is back on the open market with his National Collegiate Athletic Association eligibility. The Vees announced that Murphy has decommitted from Merrimack College.
“These situations are never easy,” said Vees coach-general manager Fred Harbinson, in a statement released by the team. “Wade simply felt he rushed into a decision and has decided he wants to re-evaluate where he will play college hockey next year.”
Murphy has played in 145 career games in the BCHL including playoffs with the Victoria Grizzlies and Vees. During that time Murphy has 57 goals and 132 points and in 26 playoff games last season, he collected 27 points, helping him share playoff MVP honours.
The Vees opened their main camp Thursday with the first of three intra-squad games at the South Okanagan Events Centre. Main Camp is open to the public and runs until Aug. 25.
