There is a strong chance that Ironman Canada will be returning to Penticton in 2020, following a six-year hiatus.

The triathlon started running in the city annually 35 years ago, and Penticton became a renowned host that saw thousands of participants and spectators flock to the area each August. The triathlon did not return after 2012 when the city opted to end it’s 30-year relationship with the organization and host a Challenge Family event instead.

City staff and leadership with Ironman Canada have been in talks for the past six months about seeing the event return to the city, and city council voted on May 7 at the regular meeting for city staff to negotiate a five-year contract with the organization to see its return in 2020.

The triathlon has drawn its criticism over the years, however, with many city residents voicing concerns over the road closures during the five-day event. So we want to know, would you like to see Ironman Canada return to Penticton in 2020? Let us know your thoughts!
