Now members of council and the DPA are in a dispute as to who should host the events and the manor in which the events were handed over to the city. (Mark Brett - Western News)

The Downtown Penticton Association and the Penticton City Council are still in a tenuous relationship following the transition of formerly DPA-organized civic events as the responsibility of the city going forward.

In a press conference on April 8, members of the DPA responded to comments that were made during the city council meeting on April 2 by Couns. Katie Robinson and Jake Kimberley. Both councillors argued that there was not enough notice given to the city in relation to the DPA stepping down from hosting its annual events, which includes the B.C. Day celebration and Canada Day celebration.

Members of the DPA are upset with the comments because they say they are misleading, due to the fact that the association approached the city in November 2018 to discuss partnering on these events. Neither councillor has issued a retraction of their statements nor an official apology, and the DPA said it just wants to move on from the discussion.
