Legendary blues musician Jim Byrnes ready to hit Oliver stage

The award-winning musician, actor to be featured at Venables Theatre Jan. 25

A Vancouver-based musician and actor who was recently awarded the Order of Canada is coming to Venables Theatre in Oliver.

Jim Byrnes, known for his award-winning blues albums and numerous TV and movie roles, will take to the South Okanagan stage on Thursday night, Jan. 25.

Simon Kendall from Doug and the Slugs (keyboard) and Eric Reed (guitar and mandolin) will join Byrnes on stage. Show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Born in St. Louis, Mo., Byrnes moved to Vancouver in the mid-1970s where he would become a mainstay on the blues scene. Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker are just a few of the legendary names the Oliver-bound musician has played with.

Byrnes would later star on the popular variety program, ‘The Jim Byrnes Show.’

The 75-year-old was awarded the Order of Canada in 2022, for his “impact on the Canadian art scene as well as philanthropic work.”
