A graduate of the Penticton Minor Hockey Association will make his first BCHL career start for his hometown team on March 16.

Sharky Nowek, 17, has been named the starting goaltender for the Penticton Vees when they host the Alberni Valley Bulldogs at the South Okanagan Events Centre on Saturday night.

Nowek has served as the team’s third goaltender in his rookie season, with Will Ingemann and Andrew Ness sharing starts during the 2023-2024 campaign.

Before inking a deal with the Vees last summer, the Penticton-born netminder played at the Okanagan Hockey Academy.

Nowek’s start on Saturday will come one night after the Vees clinched the Interior Conference’s regular-season title for the 12th time in a row.
