Yard waste collection in Penticton has been temporarily suspended for the next two months.
Amid the below-normal temperatures recorded in the South Okanagan since Boxing Day, the city had decided to put yard waste collection on pause.
The city said on Wednesday that garbage will continue to be collected weekly and recycling will be picked up bi-weekly.
Carts will be emptied earlier than normal during the weeks of garbage-only collection as the truck is only picking up one waste stream, the city added in its Wednesday announcement.
“In order to ensure your waste is always collected, please have your carts at their collection point no later than 7 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day,” the announcement reads.
Most of the Okanagan is expected to be hit with significant snowfall starting on Wednesday. To ensure garbage or recycling is collected, the city is asking people to make sure the area around their waste carts is free of snow.
People should call 250-490-3888 to report if their garbage or recycling was not picked up because of the winter weather, or email csrpenticton@wasteconnections.com.
