Penticton man wanted on warrants arrested in Ontario

Penticton man Phillipe Ovid Poisson, who was wanted B.C. wide, was arrested in Ontario on Wednesday.

Penticton RCMP have located Phillipe Ovid Poisson who was wanted B.C. wide.

A Penticton man labelled as a high risk to re-offend and wanted on warrants has been arrested in Dryden, Ont.

Philipe Ovide Poisson was arrested and facing nine new criminal charges from an in incident in Dryden. Insp. Kevin Glenister of the Dryden Police Service said the 21-year-old man was taken into custody on Feb. 27.

“Officers were called to the arena last evening regarding a suspicious person making inappropriate comments. Philipe Poisson was spoken to, however initially gave a false name and birthdate,” said Glenister.

Poisson was at the arena during a Dryden Ice Dogs Junior A hockey game at the time of his arrest. Further investigation by police revealed that Poisson was on three separate release orders from B.C. and was in contravention of a number of conditions and there is a B.C.-wide warrant in effect for him.

Poisson has subsequently been charged with five counts of failing to comply, obstruct police and uttering threats. Glenister said in a press release that it is alleged Poisson told officers a number of times he wanted to kill them.

Penticton RCMP issued a press release asking for assistance from the public in locating Poisson earlier this week. Investigation is continuing and Poisson is scheduled to appear in Ontario Provincial court on Thursday for a bail hearing.
