Some Penticton residents may encounter water discolouration when they turn on their taps throughout the month of April.
City crews will work on the annual water main flushing program from April 4 to 29 in an effort to promote better pipeline sourcing, among other objectives.
The adoption of the program will result in water distribution system improvements and a number of cost savings, according to the city.
“As a result of the unidirectional flushing, water supply to city properties may show signs of sediment and discoloration in various areas,” a city announcement reads.
“If your property is experiencing dirty water, simply run the cold water tap until water runs clear.”
A reduction in overall water usage is expected to be among the outcomes of the city’s spring maintenance.
“To avoid any inconvenience, check water supply colour prior to using washing machine by running a household tap for several seconds,” the city added.
