The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is closing its offices, facilities and recreation centres Monday, Sept. 19, to mark the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

Representatives from the regional district say all recreation programs will be cancelled.

RDOS landfills and transfer stations will remain open, with curbside collection also expected to proceed as currently scheduled.

B.C. will follow the federal government’s lead and observe Sept. 19 as a holiday, joining Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador in closing most Crown corporations and all schools.

Though most City of Penticton facilities will be closed Monday, current bookings at McLaren Arena will be honoured and the city’s community centre will be open.
