A Penticton Vees goaltender with making BCHL history on his mind has been named the league’s first star of the month.
Will Ingemann — who on Feb. 24 moved within one shutout of tying the league’s single-season record — received the honour after not allowing a goal in his four February starts.
The Plymouth, Minn. product’s shutout streak is now at 249:43, as of Feb. 29. The BCHL’s longest shutout streak belongs to Brad Thiessen, who didn’t allow a goal in 250:25 for the Prince George Spruce Kings in 2005.
Two more shutouts for Ingemann and he’ll have the most in a single-season for any BCHL netminder.
The 18-year-old has a 19-5-1-2 record in his rookie BCHL campaign while posting a 1.75 goals-against average and .925 save percentage. His shutout streak started on Feb. 4, when Penticton topped Merritt 4-0 on the road.
Ingemann follows his Vees teammate and fellow goaltender Andrew Ness, who was named the BCHL’s first star of the month for January.
The Vees are back in action on March 1 and 2, when they visit the Langley Rivermen and Coquitlam Express.
Penticton returns to the South Okanagan Events Centre on March 9, for a showdown with Merritt.
A pair of Surrey Eagles forwards, Aaron Schwartz and Caden Cranston, were named the league’s second and third stars of the month, respectively.
